Foursquare Church Governance and Appointment Process

The Foursquare Church follows a Modified Episcopal form of church government. This means:
  • Senior Pastors are appointed by the President, in consultation with the Foursquare Board.
  • All other local church appointments are made by the Senior Pastor, in consultation with the Local Church Council.
  • All Senior Pastors are licensed by the President, again in consultation with the Foursquare Board, and credentials are renewed annually based on a review of their progressive report.

Appointment Process for Senior Pastors

To apply for the role of Senior Pastor, a minister must:
  • 1. Hold a Theological Degree or have completed the required course available on the Foursquare website.
  • 2. Read Foundations of Pentecostal Theology.
  • 3. Submit an application to the President.
The President, in consultation with the Board, will assess the minister’s suitability and determine whether to accept the application.

Credential Committee Process

Once the application is accepted:
  • The minister must meet with the Credential Committee.
  • If found suitable, the committee will notify the President.
  • The President will then issue the credential to the minister.

Annual Credential Review

  • The President will conduct an annual review with all credentialed ministers.
  • Credentials are renewed yearly, subject to the review of the minister's progress and ministry performance.
The Prospective Minister's Form is an opportunity for you to let us know about your interest in ministry. It will take 15-20 minutes to fill in this form and you will need to attach a current CV (Resume) and photo. Progress can be saved so you don't have to complete it in one sitting.
